All Over the Place

I'm all over the place.  Not really sure what to post and where.  I was going to have my Crafty Geek EP blog be my "catch-all" blog where I post about anything and everything... but I changed my mind.  Thought that it should be kept to my crafting stuff.  I mean it is called Crafty Geek EP.  Emphasis on the "Crafty" part.  So, this will now be my catch-all.

Welcome --- to Psykotic Muse.

Project Impossible: A Success (Kind Of)

My last post was about my plan to make my daughter the costume of her dreams!  Okay so maybe just the costume of the year.  Either way... I did it!  Kind of.

I had planned on using the tutorials listed in earlier mentioned post to create an awesome Elsa costume.  But after getting a list put together of everything needed I realized that it was going to be out of our price range.  (Unfortunate financial circumstances.  Remember?)  So once again I did what any deranged dedicated mother would do.  I started to pull out anything and everything that was blue from the closets.  Turns out we don't own a lot of Elsa blue clothing.

Using an old pajama top of mine, an old t-shirt, and my daughter's old Cinderella costume, I made my daughter her Elsa dress.  The only problem?  It looked like a mermaid costume because in fanned out at the bottom.  (Thanks mom.)

So off to the store I went to find some cheap inexpensive material to layer over the "fin" part of the dress.  And I found it!  Some sparkly Elsa blue tulle on the bolt.  I bought two yards of it because we were needing the cape also.  While at the store, I bought the white yarn for the wig.  (Looking back, white hair spray would have saved more moolah and would have been like ten times easier to apply.)  Yay!  Let's finish this costume!

Here is the finished product:

I know it's not the best representation of Elsa but my daughter loved it and that is all that matters to me.  The only incident was a little girl at school was making some not so nice comments about her costume.  But we didn't let that ruin our Halloween!

P.S.  I decided not to do that crown.

Project Impossible: Elsa Costume

I have received yet another impossible task by my lovely 7 year old.  Yes I do realize that I could have declined the mission but then how much fun would that be?

Early on in the year I told my daughter that she had to lock in her Halloween costume by September 1st.  (She has a habit of changing her mind at the last minute.)  So on that lock-in day she told me she wanted to be Ariel.  I was so on that.  I was all, "I got this!  Party City is going to have everything I need!  Yeah!"  Then two weeks later as we are having a discussion about costumes (basically me telling my husband that he should be King Triton and I could be Ursula) my little one pops up and says, "Noooo, I said I wanted to be Elsa remember?"  After a little 'No you didn't, Yes I did' battle, I decided it wasn't worth the energy (and 7 year old little girl drama) to argue so I just gave the 'you win this time little one' look and went on with life.

Well, due to some really really unfortunate financial circumstances, we have not been able to go costume shopping.  And we are already in October!  So I decided to buckle down and do what any other desperate mother would do at a time like this.  I went to Pinterest and searched for "DIY Elsa Costumes for Kids" and found a whole treasure chest full of sparkling Elsa gems!

So now comes my Project Impossible.  The Elsa costume!

It is basically going to be this costume with this cape and this wig with this tiara.  Think I can pull it off?  I sure hope I can!  If I do happen to beat the odds stacked against me (*ahem* time *ahem*), I will be gloating about it for a week.  At least.

Wish me luck!  Let the craft fairies sprinkle down on me this month!

Dreams Are Funny Things

When I was in high school, a friend and I would get together and talk about our dreams.  The weirder the better.  We would analyze each other's dreams and try to fit them into whatever was happening in our lives at the moment.  When one of us had a particularly bizarre dream we just couldn't wait to see each other the next day to tell all the details.

Ten years later I am no longer in touch with that friend but I still have the same fascination with dreams.  And with technology it is easier to look up the meanings of dreams.  Sometimes, however, the meanings leave you more confused than the dream itself.

Here is the dream (just the parts I remember):

I am standing in a room in a house.  I have a thought about being pregnant - then I am (I am not in real life).  I am in pain because my stiff belly is huge and pressing on my hernia (which I do have in real life).

And that's basically all I remember.

So out of curiosity I open up my dream app and start looking for the key words.  I look up pregnancy, pregnant, and pain since that is all I remember.

Here are the meanings:

Pregnancy:  "Forecasts a happy increase in material wealth."
Pregnant:  "Points to the development of a new approach to life, a new project you are creating, a new outlet of expression, or new faculty."
Pain:  "You are punishing yourself over a useless cause or inconsequential action on your part."

So basically...

I haven't a clue as to what my dream is referring to.  But if it means that I am going to experience or do something new then I'm game!  New adventure here I come!

Have you ever had a dream that has left you scratching your head?  Do you have a different interpretation of my dream?  Share it by leaving a comment!

Product Opinion: Chocolate PB2

The following is NOT a paid endorsement/post.

So it's been about a month since my last post and I thought I would post a little opinion post about something I bought at the grocery store today.  (Bonus:  How many times did I squeeze "post" into my first sentence?)  What did I buy?  I'll tell you.  It's called Chocolate PB2 and it is basically powdered peanut butter.  No, your eyes do not deceive you.  You read powdered peanut butter.  Yeah I was kind of amazed when I saw it.  I looked at my husband and he said, "Get it.  Let's try it."  So we did.  Get it that is.  I'm the only one who has tried it so far.

I will be honest - I don't know much about healthy eating but the label for Chocolate PB2 looks pretty impressive to me.  45 Calories per serving, 1g of Total Fat, less than 0.01mg Cholesterol,...  The ingredients are even better.  I can actually pronounce them!  And did I mention it is a Kosher product as well as Gluten-Free?

Okay so let's get to it then.

I followed the directions (not difficult considering you only mix 2 tbsp. of the powdery substance with 1 tbsp. of water) and spread it on my bread.

I'm not going to lie.  I wasn't that impressed with the taste.  I couldn't really taste the cocoa and there was a grittiness to the texture (and yes I did make sure to mix it well).  I do still have hope for it though.  I love to bake and am always trying new things to add taste to my creations.  I think that Chocolate PB2 would make the perfect add on to some cupcakes or brownies.  Or cookies!  The possibilities are endless!
